Network Edition
Managing the backups of numerous systems can be time-consuming, expensive, and inefficient. When you consider the resources and hardware necessary to manage each system individually, the process becomes costly and ineffective. SBAdmin allows you to centrally manage all of your AIX, Linux, and Solaris systems from a single, easy-to-use interface, while providing the capability of performing network backups and sharing the hardware resources on each system. The Network Edition license is for customers who need to manage backups of more than just one system.
Licensing is based on a “per-host” model. We DO NOT charge for the amount of data backed up, number of CPUs or some other nonsense. Purchase a single Network Administrator license for backup management and as many Client/Server licenses as needed.
SBADMIN TERMINOLOGY

Spectrum protect (TSM Edition)
This integration license is an optional feature that may be added to the SBAdmin Network Edition license. This option is designed to add TSM client (node) and TSM server support to the full range of SBAdmin features. This license is a cost-effective alternative because you only purchase TSM support for those clients/nodes that require it.
This optional feature will provide your TSM environment with the added protection of full-system backups for your AIX, Linux and Solaris systems. These full systems backups, with our ASR technology allow you to perform flexible bare-metal recovery of systems backed up directly to the TSM server.
- Disaster recovery for TSM node and non-TSM node clients
- Writing backups to TSM, SBAdmin or NFS servers
- Support for AIX, Linux, and Solaris
- All systems managed from a single application
- Disaster recovery for TSM server itself
Backup Encryption
BACKUP DATA ENCRYPTION
With the SBAdmin Backup Encryption license option, all Linux, Solaris and AIX backups, from single directories to full system backups, can be encrypted and protected from unauthorized access. This feature may be added to the Network Edition and Workstation Edition licenses.
DATA NEVER LEAVES THE CLIENT UNENCRYPTED
SBAdmin encrypts the data BEFORE it ever leaves the client. This way, the data is protected both in transit and at rest. With encrypted backups, no one (not even Storix) can read your backup data without knowing your encryption key. This protects against the loss of secure information due to unauthorized access to your backups, as well as your stolen or lost backup tapes.
Key features: |
Simplified encryption key management |
Utilizes Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) |
Meets or exceeds NSA requirements |
Supports up to 256-bit AES encryption |
Client-side encryption for encrypted network transfer |
AIX System Backup
IBM AIX provides many options for software storage configuration and allows you to tune your I/O performance and system availability using striping, mirroring, specific disk placement, etc. After a full-system failure, recovering an AIX server to its previous configuration, even when using mksysb, can become a difficult and time-consuming task. Add a change in disk or system hardware to the process and you may experience days of downtime and lost revenues. SBAdmin provides flexible recovery of rootvg and data volume groups to dissimilar hardware and storage.
MORE THAN A MKSYSB
The AIX mksysb utility has been around for a long time and works fairly well. But, it is just a command-line utility and not a full-featured backup product. Relying on mksysb requires systems administrators to write their own scripts to copy the mksysb images to storage, keep track of cron entries, and configure a separate NIM server to host the images. Plus, you still have to run the savevg command separately since mksysb only backs up rootvg. Why not let the backup software handle all of that for you and a lot more? With SBAdmin, we take care of backup retention, scheduling, coping off backups, reporting, notifications, and you no longer need to use NIM for system recovery. You can also choose to back up the entire system (or just rootvg) as part of the backup job.
SUPPORTED ENVIRONMENTS:
- IBM Power Systems (pSeries/RS6000)
- Power BladeCenters and PureFlex
- IBM LPAR virtualized environments
- AIX V5L, AIX V6, AIX V7
Linux Backup and Recovery
Linux data backup and disaster recovery is at the core of what we do best. System Backup Administrator (SBAdmin) provides Systems Administrators the peace of mind that mission critical Linux servers can be recovered in their entirety without having to reinstall the operating system. Our Linux backup capability includes a process we call Adaptable System Recovery (ASR). With ASR, a file-based backup of the entire Linux system is created along with customizable recovery media. Unlike image-based backups, you can restore the entire Linux server to dissimilar hardware, storage, or virtual environments as well as perform individual file restores from a single backup.
MORE THAN AN INSURANCE POLICY
Whether you are backing up Red Hat, Oracle Linux, SuSE, or Debian, SBAdmin understands the various options available for configuring storage. To reliably restore the system from bare-metal, we have become experts in LVM, Software RAID, and Device-Mapper Multipath devices. SBAdmin’s ASR technology is flexible enough to allow you to make changes to the configurations during system recovery. For this reason, SBAdmin is also an ideal solution for P2V, hardware migration, and provisioning/cloning scenarios.

IBM Linux on Power
Storix System Backup Administrator (SBAdmin) was the first bare-metal recovery solution for Linux on Power back in 2004. Since then, we have continued to support IBM Linux on Power hardware and were the first to provide our flexible full-system backup and bare-metal recovery for Red Hat, Ubuntu, and SUSE Linux running on IBM’s Power8 Systems (LE).
SBAdmin is the leader in Adaptable System Recovery (ASR). This allows for restoration of the entire system (operating system and user data) onto same or different system or disk configurations (referred to as hardware migration or cloning). Because it is file-based backup rather than a disk image, you can perform individual file restores.
No other backup utility, not even AIX mksysb, has all the system backup and disaster recovery features and flexibility of SBAdmin.

Solaris
Creating full system backups of your Oracle Solaris systems have never been more crucial. With storage innovations such as ZFS and Solaris Volume Manager (SVM), you can tailor your storage for the best possible I/O performance and system availability using striping, mirroring, specific disk placement, etc. After a full system failure, recovering a Solaris server to its previous configuration can be a difficult and time-consuming task. Add a change in disk or system hardware to the process and you may experience days of downtime and lost revenues.
SBAdmin is designed to provide bare-metal recovery Oracle Solaris systems in their entirety, quickly and reliably so that you are able to resume operations with minimal downtime and effort. SBAdmin will do so in such a manner that you may restore the system to the same, similar, or completely different hardware using what we call Adaptable System Recovery (ASR). With ASR, you do not need to worry about keeping identical hardware available in case of a disaster. Your offsite recovery plan can be simplified by restoring production systems onto whatever hardware (physical or ldom) is readily available.
